Extreme weather and climate events have increased in frequency, intensity and severity as a result of climate change and hit vulnerable communities disproportionately hard. Yet one third of global populations are still not adequately covered by reliable early warning systems, according to the 2020 State of Climate Service report from WMO.
To address the technical demands of such systems, the main goal of DANSk-LSM is to develop and demonstrate accurate and efficient, physically and mathematically consistent Data Assimilation (DA) systems that robustly integrate synergistically and complementary available satellite data with the state-of-the-art of hydrological models. Thus, we will build the capacity for cutting-edge next generation high-resolution global hydrological early warning systems that are open-access.
DANSk-LSM is unique in its novel integration of geodetic and remotely
sensed Earth Observation (EO) data, innovative DA and calibration frameworks, and unprecedented high spatiotemporal resolutions.
